Queen of the Dawn is set in Egypt one thousand eight hundred years before the time of Christ in the time of the Shepherd King Apepi. It opens at an almost breakneck pace, with Pharaoh deposed and killed, his wife and child in hiding, and the goddesses stirring. A secret religious order raises the Pharaoh's daughter, and she meets and falls in love with the usurper's disguised son.

I was excited to read this book, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations. The story was interesting, and I liked the idea of exploring ancient civilizations, but the writing style was a bit dense and hard to follow at times. Some of the characters felt a bit flat, and I didn't always feel connected to them. However, the historical details were fascinating, and I learned a lot about the time period. It's not a bad book, but it's not my favorite either.
